From delicate trilliums and lady slipper orchids to crested dwarf iris, the diversity of springtime wildflowers in the Smokies is breathtaking.

Spring flowers in Trilliums, Ontario
Recommended by Stephanie from The World as I See It
If you’re looking for where to find spring flowers in Canada, head to Ontario for trilliums! Best known as the provincial flower, trilliums in Ontario bloom between late April and May.
Bass Lake, Restoule, and Awenda Provincial Park are among the best parks in Ontario to find trilliums. In Awenda you’ll find the most common species of trillium, the white trillium.
In both Bass Lake and Restoule Provincial Park you’ll find some of the other species, of which there are five native trillium species in Ontario. The five species are white, red, painted, drooping, and nodding trillium. One of the most striking is the red trillium, which is actually more of a dark plum color.
Tulip Garden in Srinagar, Kashmir
Recommended by Ashley from Plan Ashley Go
Spread over an area of 30 hectares, the Indira Gandhi Memorial Tulip Garden in Srinagar, Kashmir is the largest tulip garden in Asia. Although tulips are not native to India, the 1.5 million tulip bulbs that were brought here from Amsterdam in 2007 have since then bloomed every spring to welcome tourists with a resplendent display of colors. The Zabarwan Range surrounding the Tulip Garden offers the perfect backdrop to enhance the vibrant shades of the terraced tulip field. The garden is open to tourists only from late March to early May. For the rest of the year, it is closed and under the tender care of the Floriculture Department of Srinagar. In the two weeks of April when the tulips are in their full glory, the Tulip Garden hosts the annual Tulip Festival, attracting millions of tourists from all across the world.
Bluebells in Hampshire, UK
Recommended by Sara from Big Adventures with Little Fee
In Hampshire on the South Coast of England we have some incredible bluebell fields that suddenly appear in the warmer Spring months. We have a local woodland near our house at the Royal Victoria Country Park, and every year they celebrate the opening of the “bluebell walk”. It’s also incredibly accessible as a miniature steam train drives past the bluebells for those who cannot walk far and get to them – it’s also great for kids!
These beautiful blue spring flowers create a magical “carpet” that sweeps between the trees and runs either side of the path. The flowers are so delicate with their bell-shaped flowers swinging in the breeze. If you stop at any woodland in Hampshire in the Spring then you should be able to find your own bluebell carpet.

Bluebonnets in McKinney Falls near Austin, TX
Spring is a great time to visit Austin, TX to admire blooming flowers. Bluebonnets, the state flower of Texas, bloom from late March to early April. You could see small patches of these blue flowers along the highways and in smaller parks within Austin city limits.
However, few places could rival McKinney Falls State Park near the airport. It is a popular hiking destination with the locals. So, make a reservation to see the wildflowers at the Bluebonnet meadow.
The meadow is near the Rock Shelter trailhead. You can take lots of flower pictures in this field. Do your best to leave the meadow in a better place than you found it. Avoid stepping on the bluebonnets when taking pictures. Instead, look for small patches without flowers to step on.
Tulip Festival in Istanbul (TR)
To celebrate this beautiful flower, the city of Istanbul has put on a “tulip festival” since 2005. Nearly a dozen parks around the city plant more than 8 million tulip bulbs every year in anticipation of the festival, which happens between April 1 to 30. Travelers who want to see the tulip festival in Istanbul can choose from a variety of parks, such as the sprawling Emirgan Park (which has the biggest collection of tulips out of all the parks!). Gülhane Park is another excellent choice, as it is located in Istanbul’s historic district and features a lovely landscaped scene.”

London is the perfect destination for spring flower lovers. Spring in London lasts between March and May, beginning with crocuses and ending with wisteria and roses. March welcomes the arrival of daffodils and crocuses, adorning the green expanses of parks like St. James’s Park and the gardens of Ham House in Richmond. Spring flowers in New Zealand
Recommended by sightseeing shar
New Zealand is a country full of gorgeous landscapes and breathtaking hikes. Known as one of the world’s adventure capitals, tourists can do everything from swimming with wild dolphins to glacier hiking. Spring is the best time to visit New Zealand because it is the only time of year when wild lupin flowers bloom, transforming the scenery into varying hues of purple and pink. These flowers draw thousands of visitors annually from September through December. They are mostly seen in various meadows and grasslands on the South Island. However, they first bloom in the area around Lake Tekapo, making it the best spot to view them for both the quantity of flowers and easy access since Lake Tekapo is in the middle of most road trips around the South Island.
Calla Lily Valley, Big Sur
Recommend by Rebecca from Veggies abroad
Nestled within the rugged beauty of Big Sur, California, lies the enchanting Calla Lily Valley, a hidden gem that often gets passed over for more prominent Big Sur sights.
During the spring months, typically from March to May (sometimes a little earlier depending on the weather), this beautiful valley comes alive with countless calla lilies, blanketing the valley with hues of white and green. The valley is a part of Garrapata State Park, but it isn’t marked with a giant sign from the road (Google can help you find it). Once you arrive, park on the shoulder of Highway 1 and head down the hiking path. At first, it will appear like any other natural area, but continue walking for about 10 minutes to get to the lilies!
Tulips in Keukenhof Gardens
Recommend by Samantha Oppenheimer of Find Love and Travel
I couldn’t think of a better place to experience flower fields in spring than in the Keukenhof Gardens and nearby tulip fields by Amsterdam. With around 2 hectares, this is actually one of the world’s largest flower gardens! With millions of bulbs planted, you can really get lost in Keukenhof Gardens. It is seasonal for Spring, so people from all over the world come here to experience spring.
The tulips begin to bloom around the end of March until mid-May and are completely beautiful. To get to the gardens, you’ll first arrive in Amsterdam via the Amsterdam International Airport. Then, the best way to visit the tulip fields is by taking a coach bus tour, which leaves from Amsterdam Centraal and takes you directly to the garden. Alternativily, you can rent a car, but that only really makes sense if you’re planning to do a road trip. While there, you can appreciate the stunning flowers and snap some pretty incredible photos too.
Additionally, you can even rent a bike to cycle around the nearby farmer’s tulip fields. There are four separate routes you can take, categorized by color. This is also a very popular activity that is just outside the garden.
The weather in Amsterdam during the spring can be unpredictable. The temperatures often range from 43°F to 57°F, and I suggest bringing an extra layer just in case. The Park Inn by Radisson is a great hotel to stay in while on your trip. It’s a four-star hotel and nearby to Amsterdam’s other popular attractions!
Ottawa Tulip Festival
Recommended by Kim from Explore Your Bucket List
The Ottawa Tulip Festival began with a gesture by the Dutch, who as a token of gratitude and friendship after World War II, gave Canada a gift of 100,000 tulip bulbs.
The focal point of the festival is in Dow’s Lake where thousands of bulbs are on display in more than 30 beds, including the historic Queen Juliana flowerbed where the original bulbs reside. There are many other spots now in the city to see the flowers including Confederation Square, Majors Hill Park, and along the Rideau Canal.
The number of tulips has now increased to over 1,000,000 bulbs and from late April to early May, the capital region bursts with over 100 different varieties painting the city with vibrant hues. The festival is a highlight for visitors to the Ottawa area in the Springtime.
